Show Your Appreciation

According to Chinese culture, people should show their sincere appreciation when they receive something nice from whoever they know. Nowadays the word 老板 (lǎo bǎn: boss) is often used to describe people who offer material support in order to satisfy their vanity. Well, we have a phrase for you to learn so that you can use it to show your appreciation when you receive a red packet (红包 hóng bāo) or something precious from a person.

谢谢老板 (xiè xiè lǎo bǎn) = Thank you, boss.

  • 谢谢 (xiè xiè): to thank, or thank you
    老板 (lǎo bǎn): boss
谢谢老板 (xiè xiè lǎo bǎn): “Thank you, boss.”

In day-to-day use, whoever you’re saying this to doesn’t necessarily need to be your boss. It could be anyone who has given you something nice or done you a favor.
